Green With Envy

Diamonds might be a girl's best friend, but gemstones can make any woman feel royal. One of the prettiest gems of all is Emerald.  It's bold, it's powerful, and it looks great in everything from clothes and accessories to jewelry and cosmetics.  It is not surprising then, that Pantone, the world’s leading color authority, named Emerald as the Color of the Year for 2013. They call it “Lively. Radiant. Lush… a color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well being, balance, and harmony.”
Designers like Oscar de la Renta, Burberry, Vera Wang, and Michael Kors have all drawn tremendous influence from the jewel tone in their Spring '13 collections.  Emerald can be worn year round and is a welcome change of pace from the usual citrus shades and pastels of Spring.  This vivid color brings about a lively and radiant mood to anyone who wears this kind of hue.  Pair it with metallic shades like gold and silver, or really make it pop with neutrals like black, white and navy.  To top it off, it also looks great on every skin tone.  Maybe that’s why the color specialists over at Pantone dubbed it the color of the year.
Personally, I've also been a fan of emerald- even before it became trendy.   Besides it being my birthstone, I love wearing emerald because it makes the green in my eyes stand out whenever I do.  If you're looking to incorporate a bit of the rich hue into your wardrobe, here's how.  First, always start smallRemember less is more! Start by incorporating the color into your accessories. Try a nice statement necklace or small tear drop earrings for starters. Either piece will add a touch of elegance to your outfit.
Second, pair your emerald with different textures.  Wear it with a navy wool or cashmere sweater or a leather peplum top.  This will draw just the right amount of attention, without overpowering your look.
Third, make emerald your new basic color.  Instead of choosing your "go-to" white or black tee choose emerald and dress it down casually with jeans or a pair of cropped pants.
Forth, dress it up.  Ditch the little black dress and make a statement at your next party by dressing in a lush emerald green. It will look beautiful on and be sure to make that statement you were hoping for!
Your progression to Emerald City in sum: First it’s the accessories, next it’s the tee, then it’s the dress, now it’s the shoes! Why not add a beautiful emerald pair of heels to your already over flowing collection of shoes!  Now, if like myself, you really love the color, I suggest you splurge a little and add a pop of color with a statement bag.
The best part about wearing this rich jewel tone is that you can either dress it up or dress it down.  Either way, you will look regale no matter how you decide to wear your emerald.  Below are a few pieces that are sure to leave you green with envy.
