Mad for Metallic

What is the one trend for Spring '13 that has everyone talking?  Metallic fashions, of course!  While we're all familiar with short lived fashion trends that die out after a season, never to resurface again, this sleek and shinny trend is one that's here to stay and you probably already have some of it in your wardrobe!
From season to season, neutral hues of gold, silver and bronze have been the metallic shades that everyone knows and loves.  In my opinion, the best way to be on point with these traditional metals is with gold or silver accented pumps or a metallic clutch.  These classic pieces will always be stylish and can easily be paired with jeans or trousers during the day and your favorite little black dress at night.
While traditional metallic fashions have been characterized by what I like to call the "gold and silver standard,"  it's time to go "out with the gold" and in with the new.  This isn't to say that I don't still love the idea of the classics- I just prefer today's more heavy metal, if you will.  The metallic trend’s got a whole new motto for Spring 2013 as designers have put the pedal to the metal, amping up mirrored metallic finishes and iridescent fabrics. Shining on all of the runways of the major fashion capitals, these looks bring a fresh sense of opulence with a futuristic twist to the always-colorful season of Spring.   Last Spring designers paid much attention to gold and silver shades and fabrics, but this year they have expanded the range of sparkling colors and shining fabrics by presenting various clothing pieces and accessories in different colors with a metallic sheen.
Today, these characteristically effervescent and eye-catching fashions have taken off in a more colorful direction, consistent with the bold and bright color palettes for Spring.  As the major highlight of the new season's fashion, metal is now being redesigned with fresh reinterpretations and unexpected combinations that bring about a sense of novelty, which is best demonstrated by it's delicate pastels, high-shine textures and mirrored effects.
Textured metallics, like snake skin, brocade and tweed provide an utterly feminine and refined take on this classic trend.  While pastel metals in shades of lilac, blush, and aqua lend a delicate interpretation to the otherwise blunt color palettes of seasons past.  These pastels may be a fresh departure from overexposed traditional metallic shades, but mirrored and iridescent metals are the most avant garde of the new metallic styles, characterized by their futuristic twist.
Shiny, sequined and metallic materials have commonly been reserved for evening or cocktail looks, but this season's colored metallic trend is bringing metallics into the daylight. The key to making your metallics more day friendly is mixing textures and combining them with more casual items. For instance, take a metallic skirt or legging and pair it with a simple T-Shirt, sweater, leather jacket, or all three! Then apply a glittery nail polish to finish off the look.
The best part about this trend is that you can wear a little, or wear a lot.  If wearing a metallic dress or jacket seems daunting, let your feet do the wearing.  Using metallics to accent your accessories is the most subtle and easiest way to wear this trend.  For example, rock a bold and shiny cap toe shoe with something playful and feminine, like a muted floral patterned dress.  When you're ready to take your look to the next level, pair your shiny footwear with a great structured blazer and metallic shorts. Whether you prefer to dip a toe or dive right in, Spring 2013′s take on the metallic trend is as easily tested on accessories as it is on full looks.  So embrace however much of the trend you're comfortable with- and don't worry these fashions won't become dull any time soon.  Now's the time to shine so have your metallic moment.
