Pretty Pastels

While bold prints and pops of neon are perfectly on trend, Spring is also about bringing back the softness.  Pastels are a great departure from the bold prints and bright colors shown in many other collections. Pastels are soft, feminine, and light and go great with neutrals like cream and beige.
My reservation about wearing pastels has always been the fear that I would resemble my younger self dressed in her Easter best.  To avoid any such fashion mishaps, go for looks that feature color blocking, rather than white based pieces- for instance, pair pastel mint with sherbet or soft blues and purples.

The key to wearing pastels this Spring is to keep it light with breezy fabrics and relaxed fits. A great example is this mint front tie blouse from Banana Republic. This is a great piece to wear with straight legged pants or a pencil skirt.

Pairing pastels is super chic. Take these pastel skinnies by Pepe Jeans and pair them with the cool mint top above for a killer Spring look. These pants also look great with softer neutrals like gray, cream, and beige.

Don't be afraid to combine your pastels. This is not a trend that needs to be grounded with neutral pairings. Wear those purple pants with the mint top and maybe even a pastel pink shoe! Pastels are soft enough that they go together without looking too crazy. The best way to get the most out of your pastel pieces is to make them work together. Take these bangles from Nordstrom- they are all different colors, but really pop when put together.

This purple pastel tote by Rebecca Minkoff is superb and one of my favorite accessories for Spring. The shape is modern and geometric with stunning, understated silver hardware.
Top off your pastel look with these metallic cap toe pumps by Chinese Laundry for an edgy flair.

Complete your collection of these elegant Spring basics with a pastel blazer and start creating a few trendy professional looks to rock in the office this season! Belt it or leave it loose, wear it with browns, whites or nudes, or throw it over a turquoise-colored dress to create a bold fashion statement.

Just remember solid and geometric pastel pieces are the way to go, avoid those pastel flower frocks this season. Also remember to pair them! Pastels work best when worn together, without a base neutral. You won’t look crazy in an outfit of all pastels because the colors are so muted. The best pairs in my opinion are purple or creamsicle and mint, but they all look good in any combination as long as they are modern.
