Five Ways to Wear a Cute Chambray Shirt

Chambray and denim shirts have been popular for quite a few seasons now, and for good reason. They are, hands down, one of the easiest trends to wear. They’re also the glue that ties many other trends together (as you’ll see in this guide).  With clean-lined silhouettes and sharp tailoring, chambray has gone from rugged to refined . Chambray tops and button-downs, like all things denim, are amazingly versatile.  They're perfect on their own, with a skirt, under a blazer for work or over your favorite bikini top post-beach.  Here are several different stylish ways to wear your ultra-chic chambray top.

Wear it to work.
When wearing your chambray top to work, go ultra feminine on the bottom.  Because chambray is so neutral it makes a perfect backdrop for bright colors and pattern mixing.  Tucked into a prim pencil skirt and worn with ladylike sandals or pumps, a denim button-down translates seamlessly to office attire. Take the look one step further with a cute, schoolboy-style blazer.  Or for playful polish, pair a pleated skirt with your chambray top.

Layer denim on denim.
Nothing goes better with denim than more denim! It's all about contrast- pair a light chambray shirt with dark jeans. The key to wearing the look is pairing complimentary washes that aren't identical, and throwing in plenty of playful color accents like a super cute pair of coral ballerina flats and a turquoise clutch. This is the perfect outfit for Sunday brunch or shopping with your girlfriends.  For an equally stylish look, try a chambray shirt with a heavier denim jacket and ivory lace skirt for contrasting textures.

Wear it like a jacket.
An unbuttoned chambray top becomes the perfect light shacket (that's a shirt/jacket) for transitional dressing. Try it over an otherwise bare outfit, like a miniskirt/tank combo, for added coverage.

Treat it like a white tee.
At this point, the chambray shirt has transcended from trend item to total basic, so try wearing your button-down with statement pieces (as you would a white tee). With colored or print pants, chambray tops are natural compliments.  Pair them with mint, coral, red or yellow.  Or keep it simple with black or white.
Go bold and try mixing prints- just make sure they are on the same scale and contain the same color scheme.

Wear it like a cardigan.
Try a belted chambray shirt over a dress for a chic, summery look.  Complete your look with booties, a statement necklace, and clutch.
