How to Wear Your Shorts in the Winter

It might be because I loathe getting rid of anything, even for just a few months at a time, but I love the idea of wearing seasonal pieces even if it's unseasonal to do. For example, my love affair with shorts runs deep and true, and I can't bear to pack 'em away when cold weather hits. But really, there's no reason to ditch your shorts in the winter. I've come up with five perfect outfits to show you how to wear shorts during winter without sacrificing warmth or style.

Leather Weather—Leather shorts during the summer never really made too much sense to me, so bust 'em out now to take advantage of their heavy-duty material. Go crazy with the black fabrics—stack suede, silks, and wool to make a texturally arresting combo.

Boss Tweed—Too much tweed can make you look like an old dude, but tweed shorts provide just the right amount.  Just tuck in a cashmere v-neck sweater, pull up some colored tights, and top it off with a shearling jacket and color-block leather ankle boots.

Cut It Off—To winterize the standard T-shirt and shorts combo, pair a decorative sweater with an embellished neckline with your cutoffs (don't forget the tights!), and layer on a feminine fedora and vintage ankle boots. Ta-da!

Boy Crazy—Do like the boys and mix your knit sweaters with your corduroys, but keep it sexy with a sheer pair of colored tights and a classic satchel.

Tiered Drops—Those tiered, flowing fabric shorts you got during the summer don't need to go into hiding. Throw in a thick pair of wool tights, tuck in a fitted turtleneck and top it off with a suede stacked heel bootie. Think about those shorts as a patterned skirt, and you can probably dream up a hundred more iterations of this outfit.
