Summersize: The Best Summer Jackets for Your Body Size

These toppers are the ultimate work pieces- and the ultimate after-work pieces- so start taking notes and shop for your shape!

If you're busty...

Choose single-breasted, slim-cut jackets. Relaxed tailoring means no clinging. Go for fitted, not tight and skip anything oversized- or you’ll look oversize too!  Try a structured denim jacket, which can go dressy or casual.  For example, it lets you wear a curve-hugging maxi dress without exposing too much. And the nice fit in the waist keeps it from looking boxy.

If you’re straight up and down…

I wear a size 0, but I’m always looking for ways to add curves. A jacket that hits my hips at their widest point does the trick! If you want to create shape, look for styles that cinch in at the waist and give the illusion of an hourglass figure.  Try fitted jackets for shape.  A cropped cut and bright color make your top half look fuller.  Belted styles also give you a waist (and thus, boobs!)

If you’re pear-shaped…

If you're say a size 10 up top and a few sizes larger below, then you are most likely pear-shaped.  Flared jackets that nip in at the waist show off your curvy shape and take the focus off your hips. Something with a little volume or light padding at the shoulders also makes your hips look smaller.  Go long with strong shoulders, or a long boyfriend blazer that skims over the hips. Note: Pinstripes are fun and super-lengthening!
