They don't call them "stovepipe" for nothing; these jeans are slimming, chic and classic. For Spring 2015, leggings have morphed into these bad boys, that work best with belted volume on top for a sleek hourglass silhouette. Buyer beware: Such easy flattery comes at a price- something beyond the not-so-insignificant price tag. In fact, I call them my "cocktail jeans"- for only fluid intake is allowed. Alas, this is the trade-off for legs as linear as a Baccarat highball: Unable to sit or eat in comfortably, they're my new eveningwear- suitable for standing, chitchatting, and flitting around the room. All they need is a little sucking in, a wispy chiffon blouse and a fierce pair of sky-high Manolos.
It's not the first time in fashion's history that jeans have worked as an alternative evening option. They famously lit up the disco circuit in the seventies, but it was the 90s and early 2000s when the easy-glam equation of great jeans, a chic top and heels danced 'til dawn. This latest incarnation, though, was sparked at S/S '15 NYFW by Rodarte's second-skin white jeans whiplashed into gladiator boots. In my opinion, the fit is tailored and elegant, but still cool. Wear them to a party, to breakfast, by the pool- anywhere! They exude sex appeal and glamour- just don't expect to eat more than a canape or two.
